The Memories Room is the place to explore the Pier’s fascinating history. Use our interactive multi-touch tables to discover the pictures, postcards, photographs, posters and gig tickets in our Digital Memory. Whether your interest lies in ballroom dancing, music, families or daring stunts, there will be something new to learn every time you visit.

You can also become part of our Digital Memory by sharing your stories and photos (just ask one of our lovely visitor centre volunteers to show you how).

Our educational programme has been made possible thanks to the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The Memories Room is also available for hire – please see our Hire page for more information.

Fun fact: The Deck is clad in recycled planking from the old pier!

The Birch Room is our educational hub. We host a wide range of workshops for children, families and the wider community, as well as explore Hastings Pier’s history through films and exhibitions.

The Birch Room is named after two influential people in Hastings Pier's history, who coincidentally share the same surname. The pier was originally designed by Victorian engineer, Eugenius Birch, and first opened on a wet and windy August Bank Holiday Monday in 1872. The late Hastings council leader, Jeremy Birch, played a significant role in gaining funding and support for the pier after it was almost destroyed by fire in 2010.

Our educational programme has been made possible thanks to the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The Birch Room is also available for hire – please see our Hire page for more information.
